Anodyne Therapy with the Brieloff Foot Center
Neuropathy Care Center Program
Dr. Brieloff and the Brieloff Foot Centers are very pleased and excited to be able to offer a new and remarkable treatment for patients with painful, numb feet associated with peripheral neuropathy, which can be associated with Diabetes Mellitus, and other painful nerve conditions such at Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome.
What is Anodyne therapy?
Anodyne therapy uses monochromatic infrared energy to locally increase circulation to the nerves in the foot and ankle which can then enable restoration of sensations in patients with numbness in their feet and reducing pain in those patients with painful nerve conditions of the foot and ankle.
Anodyne treatment is painless, non-invasive, uses no medications or injections and has no side effects. Patients typically undergo 12 to 24 therapy sessions in our office with the Anodyne device lasting 30 to 45 minutes depending on the severity of their condition.
This FDA approved device has been used successfully on thousands of patients nationwide with a very high success rate. This treatment is covered by most insurances, including Medicare.
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy – ESWT
The Brieloff Foot Centers is excited to be able to offer ESWT "shockwave" therapy for the treatment of chronic heel pain and chronic Achilles tendon pain.
What is ESWT? ESWT, or extracorporeal shock wave therapy, is an innovative non-invasive method for the treatment of localized musculoskeletal pain such as chronic heel pain caused by plantar fasciits and chronic Achilles tendon pain. This is a non-surgical treatment that can actually stimulate the body's own repair mechanisms and help relieve pain.
There are very few side effects or risks with this treatment, which takes only about 20 or 30 minutes and is performed in our office under a local anesthesia. No crutches or special braces are needed afterwards, there are no incisions and no time missed from work.

The Brieloff Foot Centers is excited to announce that it has been selected as a Center for Neurosensory Testing with the PSSD(TM). The PSSD(TM) - Pressure Specified Sensory Device - developed by Dr. A. Lee Dellon, is able to demonstrate and quantify early nerve changes in the feet associated with conditions such a Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy and Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome. With the PSSD(TM) we are now able to detect, quantify and monitor nerve changes in the feet earlier and more accurately than with other currently used nerve testing devices.
Additionally, Dr. Brieloff has received personal surgical training under Dr. Dellon ( a world-renowned surgeon who has devoted his career to the study and treatment of peripheral nerve problems), and will be employing Dr. Dellon's surgical techniques to attempt to alleviate the symptoms associated with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy in the feet. Patients who have lost sensation in the feet and were once told that there was nothing more to be done may now have hope that they may regain feeling in their feet.
Neurosensory Testing with the PSSD(TM) and the surgical techniques that have helped restore sensation to the feet and provide relief to those suffering with pedal symptoms of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy are now available in western Maryland and the surrounding West Virginia and Pennsylvania areas from the Brieloff Foot Centers.

The Brieloff Foot Centers is proud to participate with the Medicare Diabetic Therapeutic Shoe Program. This program set up in the 1990s has a goal of preventing diabetics from developing foot ulcerations and infections which can lead to amputations via the use of extra depth shoes. Many diabetics have foot deformities, poor circulation or peripheral neuropathy leading to loss of foot sensations which can lead to the development of foot ulcers and infections.
Each year Medicare will provide a pair of shoes as well as three pairs of inserts for those shoes, to diabetics who meet any of the following criteria:
- history of partial or total foot amputation
- history of previous foot ulceration
- peripheral vascular disease
- peripheral neuropathy with ulcerations or calluses
- foot deformities
The Brieloff Foot Centers participates in the program by identifying those patients at risk for ulceration who qualify for the program and providing them with appropriate fitting shoe gear and insoles. We have many shoe options available with many popular brands and styles to be able to fit most foot types.
